I am new to these boards, but I have been reading and learning from them for several months. I have a page (in profile) that I have worked on for about 3 years now that is doing well.

If you do a search on MSN for keywords such as "insurance", and "auto insurance", and "short term insurance", and "temporary insurance", "health insurance", "short term health insurance", "temporary health insurance", "life insurance" etc. etc. etc. a BRAND NEW SITE comes up in usually the first 3 positions of search (that's #1, #2, AND #3 for the same site).

These aren't mostly even sites, they are redirects with keyword spam in the title and description meta tags.

I have a beef because I compete (legally) for some of those keywords, and I KNOW that they are expensive keywords to buy on PPC campaigns.

My point is that there is no need to work on natural search if this is "legal". This site has been doing this for a couple of months now with no response whatsoever from MSN as far as banning or whatever. It is a sophisticated spamming operation that seems to be working remarkably well.

On ALL keywords, if you want to get ranked high on MSN, just do what these guys did. Spam keywords in title and description of redirects. Any response to this information would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

...and then someone like me comes along, reports you to the spam cops at MSN, they take a look-see and you're gone... wink

Might work, but stuff like this is always short-term.

Frustarting, yep - but short-term, too...

LOL - great attitude thacker. smile

It takes the engines a while to see, investigate and take action. MSN may be longer now since they're still playing with their new search toy and killing any roaches still scurrying around...

Thanks why-travel.

It'll be interesting to see how long they are able to remain at the top. They are getting tons of traffic and have been for 3 months. It's probably worth getting banned if they are able to do this for 6 months.

My point is that if you want MSN traffic, it is easy. Just do what these guys did. Apparently it is legal to spam keywords in description and meta tags on redirects.

Why struggle to make getting traffic any harder than it is? I hope MSN picks up on this, but I am assuming after all this time that these practices are legal on MSN.

It is quite an impressive spamming operation. I tip my cap to them.

Just as a follow up. . . it looks like the power of this blog did a number on the spam sites. I think we are back to normal on the suspect keywords and redirects.

I actually like MSN better than the other search sites because it has more of the new stuff. Google and Yahoo! may have the traffic, but I use MSN a lot for searches of new pages now. I guess it is difficult to make sure new quality pages get listed, but not new spam.

I wouldn't be surprised if MSN became a much larger player in this market in 5 years. I like all of them. I just think that MSN is more geared to new sites than Google and Yahoo! what with their sandbox effect.

Just wanted to say thanks for throwin your weight around!smile

One more follow up. Two weeks later, they are back with the same scheme. They seem to have a pretty sophisticated operation over there. I hope that MSN can solve this issue, or they can certainly expect someone like myself to exploit it in the same manner.
