hello everyone

I just started this site about one week back. You can just check this site in my profile.

This site is basically free and I'm not planning to make any money out of it. It just offers services like Free project hosting, free code snippets, free product selling etc.

So how do I go about advertising for this site. Now since I'm not going to be making any profit out of it, I dont wish to spend too much money on advertising. what are the other options I have.

Thanks

Blogs are the best option out there. You can get your blog for free and you won't have to spend any money on it at all.

Blogs are far more effective traffic attractors than anything else you can do to get top search engine placement very quickly.

I'm in agreement about the blog thing - a friend of mine has done a blog before the word "blog" existed, and he linked to it and despite the fact that his site is winding down, I've attracted a good number of hits off the links he's provided. A couple of blog references definitely can make a difference, even if you get clever and maintain a blog of your own that links to it from time to time.

The problem with blogging is that if no one knows your site exists, how will they know your blog exists?

The best way to draw traffic to your site without any money, requires an investment of time instead. If you've got time...then there are some options...

I'd start with learning more about search engine optimization and working to get your site ranking in the search results. This will send traffic to your site to get you started. You can also take on a link building campaign, which will also send traffic.

Once you've done that, you can do things like work on building an opt-in email list. Then you've got folks that you can market to...

I would like to advise you to submit your site to few major Search Engines such as Yahoo,Google,AltaVista,Lycos,MSN and few others which could produce good results coz today approx more than 90% of visitors comes from the major Search Engines.

Just submitting the site to major Search Engines is not enough, at the same time you must go for some research on keywords visitors use most often in search engines that give a clear focus to your product or services. You should try to use good meta-tags.Its also a good practice if you use different keywords in the title and description meta tag for the individual pages on your website.Don't use a lot of images otherwise it could results less traffic.

Well, Rookie, you have good solid ideas that are also a necessary part of blogging. Nothing you have said is wrong at all with the exception of how you advice to apply it.

You are simply not giving the blog the attention it deserves.
The advice you give should be applied to the archives pages that are created from the daily blog postings. Put your advice
to work there and then you are doing yourself some good. But without the blog and the resultant archived pages you aren't going to do a lick of good with either one.

A one legged table won't stand up no matter what you make the leg out of. How you make the leg can make the difference
however.

If you make the leg out of at least 3 separate panels it will stand up. But not with just one.

A blog by itself will not stand up and neither will a webpage. At least in most cases they won't.

Together you have a team that will deliver the goods.

one-legged tables CAN stand, if the leg is in the middle and it has a few little feet pointing outwards wink

I might have to agree with you if those few little feet pointing outwards are reciprocal links to good websites with good content.

If you are totally clueless about blogs then send and email to
[email removed] and learn about them. They are really nothing more than an ongoing diary that might be about current events, law, search engine news or anything else you might want to talk to the world about. Like a diary in other words.

[What would be really great, is if folks would ask, learn and discuss blogs in the forums where other people can benefit from the conversation. wink]

Hello Anna.
Yes, I do talk about blogs in Money Chatter. That is another great forum. Lots of benefits for advertisers too. Easy to get and easy to set up and lots and lots of benefits too.

I really love the autoresponders that MoneyChatter.exe provides. I use them an awful lot. I have several set up and the [email removed] is just one of them. I like the fact that you can get into the chat room and get lots of benefits from [Do not post direct links, especially to .exe files] just by getting it and setting it up. I like the co-branding
feature too.

And I like all the new stuff that has just been set up. All those free programs and free marketing programs and tips too.

I just wish I could get the rotator program to work automatically however. That way I could turn Internet Explorer loose and let it do the surfing and pick up hits that way. But I don't guess that is likely to happen. The rotator does work but it just brings up a whole bunch of websites each in a separate window but then you have to knock them all down and that is as bad as wasting your time surfing for nothing. It don't make any difference if you get a zillion hits a day or not if they don't buy anything but are only on your page for the simple reason that they want to get hits to their sites who are also going to be doing nothing but surfing to get worthless hits to their sites ad infinitium, ad nauseum.

But blogs are really easy to understand and set up and they can get you lots of targeted traffic.
