When initially considering an affiliate program, you have to put yourself into the objective mind set... WIIFM (what's in it for me), as if you were the one being "pitched". By being so objective, you should try to identify "who" would want to rep your products or services... then ask "why" (anyone can witness an accident and tell "what" happened... the real magic is to explain "why"... and be right? (OK, at least most of the time)

Once you make that list, then eliminate the one's you think might blemish you for not running your program via CJ.com, or one of the other 3rd party commission facilitators.

Once boiled down, do you have someone left to contact? If so, proceed with your best foot forward to give them answers to their unspoken questions as if signing them up was the most important aspect for the survival of your business!

Then, should you be fortunate enough to have gotten someone to sign up... if they produce traffic, bonus them... if they produce traffic that BUYS... treat them as the life blood that they are... and know that if you do not, you will have missed the most under-appreciated core value of the Internet! [ CONNECTION ]

Connection between companies (big or small) still begins only after you make a connection with a human being. Otherwise, we're only left with the logic of algorithms and those can be sooooo predictable.

If I were you I would partner with Commission Junction. They are the biggest of the three major affiliate agregators (LinkShare and BeFree are the other two) and can immediately expose you to thousands of potential affiliates AND manage your affiliate program for you.

I was at their conference yesterday in Santa Barbara, and both their publishers and advertisers spoke highly of them.

Good luck with your program!

my advice would be a 2-tier affiliate program and then introduce it to webmasters specializing in webmaster affiliate programs and creating downlines, it can spread like wildfire from thereon if you do it right

I wouldn't recommend a lower tier affiliate program if you are look to gerenate significant results. It is like telling an Advertiser to only but paid search on Kanoodle and Search123 because it is much cheaper than Google and Overture. You get what you pay for. Affiliate programs like setting up a search campaign take time/effort/money to effectively set up and manage. Plugging into a network like CJ which already has a large affiliate base to draw from has proved to be a cost effective way to drive sales/leads. Another thing to consider is that the majority if not all of the top producing affiliates do not waste time trying to find Advertisers to promote who are not using a tier-1 affiliate solution provider. Primarily due to the fact that they do not trust lower end providers (i.e. may not get paid) nor have the time find good offers to promote.

Very good points, Kodak, all of which emphasize that in the affiliate world as in the car repair world, it makes sense to go with Midas and not Bob's Brake House.

hi everybody,

Thanks for your reply. I wanted to know for recruting affiliates for my affiliate program, whom should I target. Is there any paid advertising site you know who can drive more affiliates to me.

Regards,

For paid advertising, I would try the old reliable: PPC ads through Overture or Google Adwords. You can target such phrases as 'affiliate program' and words that describe your affiliate program (i.e., if you've got a travel affiliate program then target 'travel affiliate' or 'travel affiliate program').
