Hey gang!

Just an question...it seems as though my sales are being reversed at an alarming rate. It's only ever the big sales, and it almost always happens on the same day. For example, I made 3 sales on Sep 11/03, and all 3 were reversed on October 10, the deadline that a company has to evaluate the transactions. Is this normal? I mean, I can understand returns, out of stock etc., but it just happens so much. If there is a problem, I wonder if it's me, CJ, or Zappos. Didn't help when I stumbled upon CJ's reviews on the Alexa website. Any comments? Thanks!

Tammy

I haven't heard anything specifically about CJ and Zappos. However, the sales being reversed at an alarming rate does sound suspicious. It could be a competitor (of yours or of Zappos) that is trying to do something, or it just could be a coincidence. I wouldn't be too worried about 3 sales being reversed. But, if it's a lot more than that than I would reconsider your affiliate relationship with Zappos.

With any large company like CJ, there are going to be complaints that show up in various places. If you're completely happy with CJ then you don't post messages about how happy you are, right? CJ processes a LOT of transactions every day, and there are going to be unhappy people out there; it's just what happens.

As far as Zappos goes, I would monitor their performance in the future and don't put all your eggs in one basket; don't necessarily rely on one advertiser for your affiliate income.

Do you know where the sales are coming from?

I've just noticed a similar situation where someone ordered about 50 items and I was pumped! But then my merchant cancelled them all because they originated from Indonesia - apparently the new eastern Europe in terms of dodgy orders.

I am not sure how to determine which sales came from which location. The link was clicked from a google ad, but how do I find out where the sale originated from, or why the reversals are happening. I guess I should just wait for a reply from Zappos?

Shoe merchants have a notoriously high reversal rate, and Zappos, is no exception... Most likely reason, the shoes didn't fit of course... Some (Shoe) merchants are as high as 50 - 60% (reversals), historically... The high ticket items only excacerbate the issue, since it increases the chances that the credit card number has been jacked... Then there are the conspiracy theories that some merchants ONLY reverse high ticket items... (Important Disclaimer - I am not accusing any merchants of these types of nefarious behavior... smile)

I sell about 15 pairs of shoes per day on my sites, and the return rate is only about 20%. Of the people who return the shoes, about 25% of them reorder. It does sound a little suspicious. You should try to set some sort of benchmark to compare.

A 20 percent return rate? That sounds like it's pretty high! Even if that's the case for online shoe retailers, I would probably pick someone else to promote rather than have to deal with a 20 percent return rate.

That's why I got out of it. Way to high a reversal rate. No reply from Zappos, so I said "SEE YA!"
