I'm looking for any good advertising opportunities out there right now for a low-cost, general audience product that appeals to a movies/TV/home theater audience.
With the recent changes to the Google algos, my #1 listing for "big screen tv" is now erased, along with a dozen other top keywords. As December has been my best month in years past, I'm now left to scramble for any good marketing offers over the next few weeks.
Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks,
John

John, you might try Google Adwords and Overture for that term. You already know what your conversion rate is and all you need to do is to get people searching for that term to your site. In your case, I would say that PPC is probably your best bet.
At this point, you really don't have too much time to find new places to advertise and test to see which places convert better for you. PPC would take care of it in the short term, and you can spend some more time researching various places to advertise (and test to see which convert better for you) in the long-term.

Thanks, Bill. I do indeed have several PPC campaigns set up, including Adwords, Overture, 7search, Search123 and Pageseeker. I've had some decent traffic and modest sales resultant from PPC engines, but they've never been enough to sustain my business in and of themselves.
What I'm really looking for is e-zine or direct email campaigns in larger quantities - or any other advertising models which might provide a far greater exposure in the short term. I'm able to budget advertising into the thousands right now, but cannot find anything worthwhile in that range.

I think you might end up being disappointed from ezine or direct email campaigns because they just don't provide as good a conversion rate than what PPC can deliver.
Anyhow, you might try www.doubleclick.com and www.fastclick.com.

That sounds contradictory when you say that overture, adwords, etc hasn't performed for you, yet you claimed that the Google SERPs were your main source of traffic?
You do understand that ppc is basically the paid version of SERPs?

It isn't contradictory at all, because that's not what I said. I never said Adwords or Overture hadn't performed. Those two and a select others have been decent... decent.
The truth is that most PPC engines supply garbage traffic that doesn't convert and I've had accounts with dozens of them to know. With the exception of Pageseeker, 7Search, Findwhat and Adwords (Overture makes money, but is often prohibitively expensive) none of the others deliver enough traffic to sustain a business.
I do Cold Fusion order tracking and find that - with all other factors being equal (ad copy, bids, etc.) - Ah-ha, Kanoodle, Sprinks, GoClick and the like are all pretty useless.
My former search rankings on Google Search alone helped send enough quality traffic that converted well enough to turn good profits for over a year. I was #1 for "big screen tv" and in the Top 10 for many other terms, including "home theater design", "home theater reviews" and so on. And those ranks were all free, following my three years of SEO work.
Now, I'm urgently looking for any reputable e-zine or direct email brokerages, but they appear to be non-existent.
I fall into that medium category for advertising, where less than a grand a month in PPC advertising just won't do it. Yet I am unable to blow thousands of dollars every month testing one crappy advertising vendor after another, waiting for someone who sends to a good list(s).

I'll whole heartedly agree that the likes of ahha, kanoodle, etc, are indeed "garbage traffic".
Since you are making the arguement that organics are what, 5 times at least (?) more effective than the convertable traffic from even ad words themselves and OV, I can't disagree with that since I am not in your industry.
However, obviously organic results are "free", and that obviously plays into your distaste for ppc's at this point. I can sympathize with how you feel; going from free, huge amounts of converting traffic to having to PAY for a slice of that traffic converting @ a lesser rate.

Exactly. Three years ago, when just starting out, PPCs were a way to get going; but now I'll need more exposure than what they can provide if I'm going to make anything of this holdiay season.
Have you done any recently-successful email or e-zine advertising?

Hi,
Well, you can try small PPC search engine, they affiliate with other small PPC search engines. The chances of getting click is even bigger than some big search engines. You can take a look of yesup.com. It ranks #2 on the top PPC search engines.
Also, Popunder or Popin could be your choices too. Do some research and you should find the one it's best and provide real traffic.
Sincerely,
JUJU

I believe that the best pre holiday advertising is per impression advertising about a month before ou expect sales to pick up, and then PPC adverstising after you have tried to get your name out there. If people recognize your name, they will click on your ad, and after they shop probably come back and buy from you...Don't expect results with a little budget though... : )
