Not sure if this is the right thread but does anyone know of a good service that appraises domain names?

I've searched high and low, contacted several different companies and can't say I'm delighted with any of them. Your results can vary significantly depending on the variables the appraisal takes into consideration. Here's a few things I suggest:
Search for "Domain Appraisals" on a major search engine. See what looks good to you. Make sure they have a phone number and someone really answers it. I've also found that putting domain names on ebay can give you some ideas, leads and info. ebay usually will not give you your best value so make sure you set a minimum reserve so you don't lose your name cheap.
If you pinned me down to one, I'd say start at greatdomains.com.....let us know how it goes.

no matter what anyone tells you..the best and REAL market price of your domain name will come from a "Featured" 10 day Ebay listing...I wouldn't even put a reserve...the price you get is the price the world is willing to pay..so that is the real value of your domain name!

the price you get is the price the world is willing to pay I can definitely see how this would get you a good measure of price on many items, but I'm not sure that a domain name is one of them.
Contrary to popular belief, the entire world doesn't use eBay. I'd hazard a guess that it wouldn't be the first place an internet professional would think of when trying to find a perfect domain name. I know of several high-volume domain brokers that certainly wouldn't.
Beyond that, eBay doesn't exactly come up in a search for "buy domain names" (unless you are using PPC results, in which case eBay might come up in a search for "used pizza). This certainly doesn't help to make it a premium market. I'm quite sure that there are many domain names bought and sold on eBay; but I have a doubt that it's the *best* place to try to estimate a domain's worth.
