Hi,
We currently have a competition going on our site to win whatever prizes we can afford. But, we thought it would be better to make it so that you can only enter the comp. when you buy something from the site. Do you think that this is affective as having just a free signup?
Thanx,
Ben

Actually, that's probably not a good idea. In some locations, laws prohibit companies from requiring that you buy something in order to win something. I would be very cautious, some companies have been sued in court because they required people to buy something in order to enter a competition.

Bad Idea...people enter to win because its fun to think you may win something. If you force a purchase, the only contestants you'll have are people who were going to buy something anyhow.

You cannot legally require someone to purchase for entry. That's against the law. You CAN, however, require that they subscribe or opt in to your FREE newsletter. People have been getting around the "No purchase necessary" rule for a while now. It gives the Webmasters the ability to contact entrants "of their own free will" and not to be considered spam.
