Hello,
Sorry if this has been asked before, and please dont think I'm advertising them.
But has anyone got any opinions on getresponse ? Or cheaper or better alternatives?
I need to add "name sqeeze" pages to my site and also add a few emails address' of my previous customers to a list. I probably will want to break this list into:
"previous customers", "enquirers" and "newsletter subscribers" . I will not have many names to start with but hill build this up over time and want something that will be able to send messages reliably to any part or all of my list.
It will need to be quick and easy for me to add addresses to and have to option of sending follow ups automatically when sales enquiries are generated.
I might want to send in html and also send attachments as well.
Thanks
Paul

* Importing your existing customer list.
In today's market place, most reputable email service providers that offer list management and sequential auto-responders to the SOHO market place require that users who want to import an existing list either re-confirm the list or prove that the list is double opt-in and the people on the list have requested to receive commercial email from you.
Why? In essence, email service providers are renting out access to software and mail servers so that customers can send mail to their lists. It is crucial that the provider ensures its IP addresses used to send mail have a good reputation.
It is fairly expensive to vet a mailing list. To avoid problems, many providers which cater to the SOHO market place have now imposed these minimal restrictions.
Otherwise, they run the risk of rogue elements signing up for the service and doing spam runs.
* Having more than one list
Almost all providers that offer list management and sequential auto-responders allow their customers to create more than one list.
* Creating the web panel for "name squeeze" pages
Again, the provider will provide you with the needed code to allow you to insert a web panel on your name squeeze page to collect people's email address and any other data.
* Sending in text and/or html
This is standard.
* Send mail with attachments
Some providers’ offer this and some don't. Given that many mail box providers now filter and remove attachments, this may or may not be a useful feature.
* Adding email addresses
I am not exactly certain what you want to do. Do you mean through the use of co-registration services? Possibly. You will need to speak with the specific provider. Do you mean importing purchased lists or sales leads? Some do and some don't
There are additional features that you may want to have, including the ability to do split testing, track click thru rates, open rates in HTML messages, create pop ups or pop overs, test the effectiveness of your pop ups or pop overs (a java script which slides across or down the page allowing visitors to subscribe to your mailing list and not be blocked by pop up blockers), measure the spamminess of your message and make any needed adjustments, test your message, provide an RSS feed.
As well, you will want the provider to provide tracking on subscribes, confirms, handle unsubscribes and manage bounces.
Some providers offer list segmentation, geographic tracking, and additional tracking capabilities.
* Delivery of your message
The ESP’s role is to provide a platform which allows you to provide the content and deliver your message to your subscribers.
With the proper platform and setting up the appropriate content, you should be able to achieve good delivery rates.
It helps if the provider has its mailing practices certified by a 3rd party, so facilitating dealing with delivery issues, has published the appropriate sender policy records and has the IPs that it uses white listed with the major mail box providers (MSN/Hotmail, Yahoo!, AOL, United Online), to reduce "false positives," meaning requested mail that is rejected or filtered to the bulk/junk mail folder.
Looking at your situation, as alternatives, I would recommend:
glube.aweber.com - AWeber - as one alternative (many marketers seem to prefer AWeber to Getresponse); or
If you don't need all the features and want a bit more flexibility on list imports - glube.emailaces.com - Email Aces.
Trusting these comments are of some value.
John
P.S. There is one other service I would recommend. BigHip.com - BigHip. Although they are strict on legacy list imports, BigHip provides an excellent feature set, along with strong support and a first class platform for delivery, having their IPs bonded under the Bonded Sender Program, along with being white listed at the major mail box providers.

Thanks John.
I've already signed up with Getresponse in any case.
So far looks as though it will do everything I need.
