Hello I have made a puzzle, which is similar to crossword.

But i dont know how I can popularise it and make profit out of it.

I know that these puzzle are already published in some puzzle-only magazines.
Look at my web-page about the cross-sum puzzles at ((url removed))

But these puzzles have a lot more potential than being bound to a puzzle magazine. They can be published on newspapers regularly, and I would like to charge a small fee for such newspaper syndication.

My initial intention was to try to contact some big syndications, But I dont want to give them the credit for the puzzle. I want my site/businessname alongside the puzzle than a syndication. They also might ignore this puzzle, or they may not put their heart into promoting a puzzle that they dont own. Also i have plans to expand into a big puzzle syndication myself, creating a variety of language independant puzzles.

How do I go about popualarising it?

I wish I can hire some-one in each possible country to represent me exclusively in that country for a share of profit made from that country, so that I can coincentrate on creating more puzzles and improve quality and forget about marketting. Is cross-words and puzzles are that big a business for people to be intrested in such offers?

I have made computer versions of already popular games, and IMHO, shareware games dont sell that well, atleast for me.

Any other ideas are welcome. Its only 1 week since I developed this cross-Sum puzzle. But I am afraid that my lack of marketting skills could spoil the puzzle concept before it gains the popularity I think it deserves.

Hm. This is just my lay understanding of the print business... but in most cases, puzzles just seem to be sold to publications outright (not the concept, but the individual puzzle) rather than on a syndication basis.

Honestly, if you want publications to give your product an honest chance.. you might consider letting them publish it once without any payment or compensation. Make it a condition that they have a short blurb about the new puzzle type, and request that people give feedback. If the puzzle is good, folks will usually write in to the editor and let them know. If folks like the product, the publication will definitely want it back, and would be willing to pay.

I don't think you're likely to find many publications that will want to put your company name next to the puzzle - most of the time when a puzzle is in a print publication like a newspaper, it's viewed as part of their product, another benefit of buying a newspaper. If it's branded with your company name and information -- then essentially it's an advertisement for you, rather than just content for them. Since advertisments are generally _sold_ by such publications, they may not be willing to mix the two.

Keep in mind that I know nothing about print, however. I could be way off base on my assumptions; I'm working off what I think is logical, rather than an actual understanding of the industry.

Silv is more or less correct in concept here...

I can tell you that we get contacted constantly by people wanting to get their puzzles, cartoons, articles, etc, published and unless you are a big name you aren't going to control the content like you are wanting to.

I have contacted exactly 12 newspapers on friday, and only one local newspaper (in an Indian langauge, where cross-word generation in that language is not easy) has shown some intrest so far. I am planning to offer 1 month free content to them.

Thanks to your comments, I am not going to make it sound like advt, rather a small copyright notice. I am going to ask for (c)mybrandname or (c)mydomainname.tld to be displayed under the puzzle in tiny letters.

I think since this is a number-crossword, this enjoys less compettition in languages where cross-words are not possible without compromising the quality. And if it succeeds there, then it can slowly get into major newspapers.

I am prepared to offer free to any news paper for first 1 or 2 months for free. Also I am planning to make a free computer version (online and downloadable) to make the game concept popular and make it known to as many people as possible.
