    Apparently there are guys out there who obtain link on your behalf. Read in another forum of wegetlinks.com who apparently charge $8 a link or so - but the site is down.

    Anyone know a reputable alternative site offering the same?

    One of the best link sources is www.textlinkbrokers.com. They have thousands of links available, ranging from PR4 to PR9 and covering just about every category.

    There are quite a few sites similar to Text Link Brokers, but I'm unsure of their credibility.

    Probably the most reputable guy I know is Eric Ward--he's been building links since at least 1995. I also recommend Debra O'Neil-Mastaler at Allliance-Link.
