I run banner ads on my website.
I want advertisers to see in their stats that visitors came from my website.
I have over 2000 pages.
They get traffic from ALL of those pages.
Each visitor shows as coming from a different page. Some stats don't show all pages!
I want all visitors from my site to "advertiser number 3" to all show that they come from the same page so referrer stats will be easy to track.
I set Advertiser number 3 banner ad to go to a special page and that page redirects quickly and automatically.
Problem is the stats package awstats and webalizer both aren't recognizing my automatic redirects page as having ever been visited (which it has) and it doesn't show up in the referrer section of his site?

So how to I redirect a visitor that clicks on an ad and goes to this special redirect page and have the stats actually pick up that page as having been visited???

Hope that is clear. Meta refresh doesn't work and an body on load function doesn't work either.

It sounds like you need a banner ad manager script. There are several out there that will manage all the banner ads on your site. Most will allow you to set up individual accounts for each advertiser and they can log in to see their stats at any time.

Here's some places you can start to look:

Thanks! I may end up going to one of those scripts as they are a bit more powerful than the javascript banner rotation that I am using to serve up the ads currently.

This is so frustrating. I have a script on over 2000 pages so changing that code with an extended search and replace would not be too difficult but then uploading those pages in many many directories wouldn't be fun.

[pulls hair out] All I want is for the dad gum page that sends them to the advertisers site to show up in the stats as if it has been visited... WHEN IT HAS BEEN VISITED!!! They loaded the dad gum page why wont it show up. aaggghhhh! This shouldn't be this difficult. I shouldn't have to put a stinking counter on it that is what stats are for.

You need to add an include where the ad would go... and have all the "included" content held in a folder used just for that. Then you only have to upload the included content, not the whole page.

Which web analytics suite do you use? If you are tracking how many impressions/loads and clickthroughs per banner, this should not be difficult to observe with a standard low-end package with any of the major software providers.

You might also look into pixel tagging, javascript and cookies etc depending on what variable or pattern it is you are trying to isolate.

If you want *your advertisers* to be able to track visitors as they are passed from a particular banner ad on a particular page of your site - to their site, try using a simple cgi tag ".../xyz.gif?=sourceHelloWorld123"

With this technique, traffic from a particular banner instance (or text link) on your site will show up in their logs/reports quite distinctly. Even if they weren't interested in which page traffic came from etc, it may be good to see which section they came from ".../xyz.gif?=sourceWEBSITEnameHOTSECTIONNAME"

Or, bust the bank and snag a copy of Banman to serve the ads and WebTrends to track your stats... wink

I actually would not recommend cj.com - bad past experiences with them.
