Hi! I'm Shannon and I for Smart Destinations, makers and marketers of the Go Card, a prepaid pass that gets travelers unlimited admission to top attractions for one low price.
Right now we are in the process of trying to strengthen our affiliate program (we're a small company so unfortunately this program has not been fed the much needed attention it deserves until recently). However, since I'm partly in charge of keeping our loyal affiliates happy, and looking to learn more about what other companies and patrons are doing in affiliates programs--here I am!
My question is this: When I first came onto the boat, the company didn't have the manpower to check out each affiliate and make sure they weren't spammers. Recently there has been an explosion of activity in our affiliate program and we're trying to stay on top of it, providing our affiliates with new opportunities, banners--etc. My problem is this: How does a smaller company with a smaller sized budget monitor all of our affiliates? Personal calls? E-mails? How do we keep spammers out while making sure we keep potential moneymaking affiliates close?
Also, since we are a travel site, how should we treat affiliates who sign up to be an affiliate but the website content doesn't directly align with us. Where do you draw the line?
Any information/links/articles are always helpful. Thanks.

This is sorta vague:Also, since we are a travel site, how should we treat affiliates who sign up to be an affiliate but the website content doesn't directly align with us. But, I'd say if they have a travel type related section on their site, they they qualify for potential affiliate partnership. FYI: Some sites that don't exactly look pretty have often times proved successful. Don't discount some of the not-so-pretty sites. They sometimes send a good amount of referrals.
