Hi,
I'm hoping for some marketing advice. And would like to get an idea of what people think of some names.
I am thinking of setting up a business that will initially be focused on the web industry and then in the long term broaden its reach to the Digital industry in general.
I am thinking of setting up a web development/design, student outsourcing and recruitment business.
The domain name that I possess is fundamentalist.com. Controversial ring to it, I know. I bought it many years ago thinking that it was a memorable domain and thought that it could one day be used to brand a product or service (wasn’t sure what at the time). I have been contacted in the past by businesses interested in buying the domain name (for example an ISP service that was just starting up). But I have kept hold of it with the intention of using it one day.
I have now come up with a use that I think might well work.
I am thinking of using the domain to be the home of Digital Fundamentalist - a web solutions/outsourcing/recruitment site.
Specialised areas of the business would be named incorporating the fundamentalist part of the name: e.g. Accessibility Fundamentalist (subdomain: accesibility.fundamentalist.com), Usability Fundamentalist (usability.fundamentalist.com), SEO Fundamentalist (seo.fundamenatlist.com) etc
In this way I would like to use the word Fundamentalist not only as a memorable name, but also trying to incorporate the idea of an enthusiast (i.e. SEO Fundamentalist is the equivalent of SEO Enthusiast). I would also like to use the word to reflect the business's adherence to fundamental principles of good practice, such as W3C accessibility standards, designing for the user and white hat SEO development.
I have sought the opinions of a few people. The reaction to the naming strategy seems to be like people's reaction to Marmite - they either love it or hate it. Some people say it could be used to brand services in a clever way, while others due to the current political climate think I should stay clear of using a word that does have controversial connotations to it.
I'd like to find out what people here think of it. Should I go for it? Or scrap it? Any other advice/ recommendations that you would give?
Thanks and Regards,
DigiFundi

I personally would sell the domain and find another - but that's just me.
Here's some hard data to consider:
According to Wordtracker, the keyword "fundamentalist" was searched roughly 1086 time in the last 90 or so days. use this as a guideline only - might actually be less searches done, but more likely, there were more. (Not like 20,000 more, but more...)
So, we know that's not a lot of searches (trust me on this one) if you're focusing on digital and SEO.
PLUS - everything associated with that phrase is religion-focused - not exactly on-topic for digital and SEO.
OK, you say, it's just a name. Fine I say, but based on that info above, I wouldn't be targeting phrases with "fundamentalist" in them - too easy to mis-spell, too - check your own post.
Here's an example - just did a query in WT on "seo fundamentals" - zero searches in the last 90 days on that phrase.
So, from an SEO standpoint, not really a strong item, IMO.
As for general marketing tactics - it's catchy, but heck, we once ran an agency called 7 Dead Pets - handled all things online marketing - we ran it for about a year, then let it slowly fade away. People still remember the name today, though (3 years later).
I wouldn't let political climate guide the choice of your business name - though it might play a role if you're trying to get in front of key business decision makers to pitch your services. generally businesses like arrow-straight companies to do business with - from name to office space, they like to feel it's money well spent - after all, it's someone's a$$ on the line handing you a cheque.
And onm a general note - do some research into the SEO side of things - there are about a bazillion firms out there pitchng their services - take your time and bring something unique to the table.
Again, this is all just based on my opinion (of which I have many) and my experience (of which I have about 10 years in Marketing, 4 in SEO).
I know GoDaddy.com has an auction service where you could put that domain up for bids.
