I have been pondering for quite some time about preselling tangible products on making my first affiliate website, but do have some concerns on this choice.
I've always heard about making a choice to sell your own product or affl. products based on your interests or skills set. So I decided to go with a topic that I am interested in and would enjoy. Unfortunately its a certain type of tangible product and these commissions run from 5-15% at best for most merchants out there.
I know that info and software products run king in this field, but is it feasible to imagine that I could make a substantial amount of revenue off of "widgets" considering the commisision applied??
Who else here in this forum sells tangible products as an affiliate? Does your income colaborate well with the effort put in?
Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can earn good money by selling tangible products. But how much good, is depend upon your market and the quality & quantity of traffic your site will receive. Also it depends upon your willingness to earn. If you want to earn more, you need to work more.
But please remember that affiliate marketing is not get rich quick type of thing. It may take months/years to earn some decent amount.
Best of luck.
