How much having the right domain names effecting traffic?

Not as much as some would have you believe.
Just make sure the domain is easy to spell.
Obviously having a domain like cars.com for a site selling footwear is a concern, but...you get the idea (I hope)

At Webmaster World at Yahoo marketing guy said that 15-20% of people search through "Direct Navigation". And that this number is up 5-7% from 2 years ago. Which he attributed to newbies on the web.
Also Google's Patent apparently has a section that implies ( All things being aqual) that a multi year registation is a plus in regard to page rank.
Any comments on this?
I work for Moniker.com the 15 th largest Icann accredited registar, but would like to hear soem reactions to this on a personal note, and I have dome names registered that are getting a lot of traffic.

Nice thread. I think 5-7% is about right. Substantial, yet not the goldrush that you may be led to believe. I think what's more important is that you chose a domain name that is easy to remember and spell so that it can be communicated in a memorable, findable manner in your advertising ventures.
