It seems to have done well for Hormel.

Thos ewho spam, have no brand image. Those who have a brand image should not spam.

Short-term, I'd say there would be a negative effect on brand image, but long-term, after things cool down a bit, it gets forgotten about.

Heck, folks almost don't remember X-10 or Gator now...

Don't remember Gator? Affiliate marketers remember Gator because Gator and similar thiefware is still swiping away visitors and causing a loss in commissions. If Affiliates are forgetting about thiefware causing them to lose commissions, they better remember fast because thiefware is reported to cause something of a loss in commissions of "potentially" 50%. I don't have that link handy at the moment that gives the report. Even if the percentage isn't as high as 50% you can imagine we affiliates on the average are likely lossing at least 20% of commissions. That could mean $100's or $1,000's of dollars a month to many affiliates.

Gator changed their name to Claria... but they are still out there.

And many others like them still exist.

The corporation changed their name to Claria, but their software is still called "Gator eWallet". There are more Gator/Claria clones now than ever before. Every once in a while I run into another thiefware company startup that acts like Claria. MarketingVOX really seems to enjoy advertising for these thiefware companies because that's where I see some of them being advertised. MarketingVOX is a friend to spyware / thiefware companies and runs ads for them. Hence, in my books MarketingVOX is the affiliate's enemy too.
