I have have always wanted to know if some of the free advertising methods that used to be prevelant a few years back are still able to pull in income with today's busy internet population. I have had mixed reviews on the results of the methods mentioned below.
1. FFA (Free for All)
2. Online Classifieds
3. Traffic or Hits Exchanges
4. Safelists
If anyone has had any positive results from these 4 free advertising methods, I would like to hear about it. If these forms of advertising are working for you, what type of business do you end up promoting? Business Opportunities, Get Rich Quick Ebooks, Traffic Exchanges, Internet marketing books?
I would like to get a general census on what seems to be working with these methods, if any at all.

They worked back in 1997 and 1998, but ffa, online classifieds, traffic or hit exchanges, and safelists don't work anymore.
They're a complete waste of time, I would stay far away from them.

I agree with BH - they just aren't the way to go now.
Proper SEO and patience does still work, though. That, and building content users want.

You can still get free publicity for your site, don't get me wrong. But you need to have link bait on your site and then work on your linking campaign.
It's totally understandable that you want to get free advertising for you website. But there are ways to go about it and there are ways not to go about getting free publicity for your site--and there are people trying to scam you into thinking that if you participate in their link scheme you'll get lots of visitors to your site and become rich and famous over night.
Sure, you can get lots of visitors to your site for free. You just have to use some sort of link bait (which is usually good content) and then follow it up with a good linking campaign.

One great way to get traffic to your site is to write articles and post them three places. On your blog, your website, and on the listings for webmaster free content. Then you ping your blog which of course is linked to your website and you add a signature box to all your articles that includes a link to your website and your blog. Everytime your write an article you are gaining tons of links to your site and also putting out content that people want both in the ezine article world and on your site and blog.
Haven't done it yet, but I am chompin at the bit to get started. Just need to learn a bit more so I have something real to write about.
Happy Writing Everyone!
