Hi- I've just built a brand new website and wanted to generate some local traffic. I'm thinking about putting an advertisiment on my window but am not sure if it would actually generate any interest to visit my website - what do you think about my proposed wording AND has anyone had any luck with this sort of advertising?

My proposed ad:

Stop gagging on a fist full of vitamins!
Get your Free Quart of Liquid Body Balance today!
It's the secret to a healthier, more vibrant YOU!
www.mydomain.com

Honestly, would YOU visit the website based on reading the above ad on the car in front of you? And if so, would you take advantage of the offer and try the product based on the ad and website? I could really use some honest, unbiased input here.

Thanks in advance for your input - I welcome constructive critisizim on my new website too if you have a minute...((URL REMOVED))

Welcome to the forums, prettypat. If you'd like a site review then please post in that area only.

If you're looking for local traffic to your site, then a car window ad will do well if it's a catchy name--the only problem is that most people aren't in front of them while they're driving, so that might not be the best time to get their attention.

From my experience, targeted search engine marketing (targeting certain keyword phrases related to your business) works best because you hit people when they're looking for something--and they're in front of their computers and hopefully ready to buy.

A friend of mine with a small business has his web URL on the side of his van. He gets less than one job per month from that, though it is something very specialist. The first two jobs paid for the signwriting, so it is basically a "free" advert after that.

Your average small business selling something that everyone needs would see at least a few enquiries from that method. Basically, market your business everywhere an opportunity presents itself.

That's the key here: they have to remember it.

Here's an idea... I've had this in my "marketing brainstorms" list for a few years now but haven't had an oppurtunity to use it.

Just an idea..

One problem with this idea is the length of the length of the message. If they stare at your window long enough to read it there's a good chance you'll be getting rear-ended!

Instead...

you could purchase an FM transmitter and put it in your car (couple hundred bucks).... instead of trying to sell the idea on your window - you have a strong headline - and drive them to tune into the FM statio that you broadcast on. The transmitter simply plays a recorded message over and over with your "sales pitch".

I came up with this idea from a local auto sales shop where I live. They had a sign out front directing you to tune into an FM station to hear their hotest deals - and it was simply a recording that played over and over.

Hope this made sense!

FCC rules preclude using transmitters that are powerful enough to reach very far. It might work in traffic-jam sitautions, but more than about 20 feet aware and it'd be fading out.

Neat idea, I just don't think it's practical...

Now, you could use those scrolling marquee things in your rear window to scroll a message to the driver behind you...or there are now, on the market, hubcaps that allow you to scroll messages on them or show video, IIC - pretty bling, and sadly, as neat as this idea may seem, would YOU buy anything from a company advertising in such a ghetto fashion?
