If you sent emails from a list that you have rented then it would be spam. These people haven't asked to be emailed by you. You should build your own list from sign ups on your website.

I know it would be spam sending emails to people that didnt ask for your ad dude; but there a some survey companies or other such companies that have email lists of people that ASKED (OPTED-IN) to receive promotions and emails from specific categories the client has selected. These companies are always fishy and it is hard to find a legitimate one out there, but my initial questions was: Does anybody know a trustworthy company out there that rent LEGITIMATE email lists?

All such OPTED-IN emails are created by the owners to receive junk/spam emails. Do they read those emails? I don't.

Most companies that say their lists are opt-in are lying... they're just spam lists that have harvested email addys.

The truly legit companies don't rent their lists, rather, they will let you "partner" with them and they send out the emails on your behalf.

One such outfit is mypoints.com. (Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with them other than having been a member for years, so I know how they work and can vouch that they are 100% legit.) Members earn points (redeemable for a wide variety of merchant gift cards) by clicking thru emails received or buying thru their links. Based on members' profiles, you can really target your audience.

You can check out their program on their corporate page (mypointscorp.com).
