a cool, catchy domain name is in my eyes where it all starts, then be creative with it. not a tech-type advice but brand yourself memorably and get your name out there, online and offline.

There is no real magic in getting good rankings in the search engines. First and foremost is relevant content! The SE do not consider domain names anymore. Also your titles are very important and should be keyword rich. Paid inclusion is also very important. Although i do not recommend dropping $299 to YAHOO, but Inktomi offer paid inclusion that is inexpensive. Mainly focus on Google, which is still free to submit your site, they give webmasters all they need to know in order to have a SE friendly site. Here is a link:http://www.google.com/webmasters/
This will give you the do's and dont's in setting up your page for SE.
Hope this helps somewhat

Relevant content is important, but even more than that his HELPFUL content. Relevant content gets the rankings, helpful content can provide useful information to the searcher and keep them coming back to you as an authority.
