I know there are rules in this forum, but I am seeking advice first before posting here.

I am seeking advice on how to go about selling a chain of sites (3 to be specific, they are all relatedto the same industry). They have a combined traffic report of over 25 million per month and lots of members. The domains could not be more perfect for these sites.

Anyways, since the sites are very large and industry specific, we are hoping to have the assistance of a broker when we sell. I have completed numerous searches on the net for brokers for web businesses but have not found any. We are not looking for a domain name or service where you post your site for sale, but rather an actual, existing company, who specializes in this sort of thing - selling businesses to businesses.

    Can anyone recommend any companies?

    Thanks.

Good question. I'll leave this thread for now, but may move it in a day or two, to a different forum that may provide better exposure.

Thanks, but that is exactly not what we are looking for. Our sites I am afraid would not get fair value. We are looking for an "actual" company who would go out into our industry sector and approach potential buyers, solicit offers and come back to us with the proposals. We are not interested in posting on those types of sites mainly because they would never get access to our actual potential buyers.

If I may explain it another way. We specifically know of about 3 companies that might purchase us. But we want to approach these companies in a professional manner - not that we are not professional, but I would think someone has more experience then I in selling these types of things - managing these types of transactions.

    Thanks, again.

What I'd do is ask around in your local business network to see if anyone knows of a local business broker.

Around here, we have a lot of people that are basically 'service' brokers. If you are looking for PR, marketing, consulting, or a number of things, you call one of them, and they basically tell you who the best person is for the job. They get a "finders" fee for doing it.

It would seem to me that this type of person might also work as a sort of go-between sales person to work a deal like this.

You may even try selling it on ebay yourself. First look at other businesses for sale (some have domain names, some not) and see what sort of information you need to post to get realistic offers. This can be a good tool for establishing a ballpark figure. You can set a minimum reserve wherever you want that bidders can't see. It may help you get a fair valuation and also yield some phone calls that may get you pointed in the right direction. You can even call some of the people that have businesses listed for sale on ebay and ask for do's and don'ts before listing it. Just an idea. G'luck. smile
