I am thinking about purchasing an ecommerce site that uses drop shipping. The current website owner has forwarded onto me several contact names and addresses of relavent companies that ship the items I plan on selling. Should I take the sellers word that these companies are legit and will do the job for me? Or should I do my own research and find my own companies? Could somebody explain the dropship process? Is it an automatic process with orders made on my site going automatically to the drop shippers? Or do I have to manually search for the relavent drop shipper when an order comes in and send on payment?

    Thanks all,

    Shane

    Drop shipping:

your company sells item - you collect money process order - you send order (PO) to supplier - supplier ships with your company name on address (not theirs, blind shipment so customer does not know where it came from) - you pay supplier for product, shipping, drop ship fees

If you are buying a site only, then the business side is for you to find, If you are buying a business with website, then you also get all supplier lists and need to contant all suppliers involved and update contact information and fill out new credit applications if you want terms.

Well most likely you're the one whos getting the good name, because that guy you're buying the site from (if you're selling the same items) already has a relationship with those suppliers.

The thing debunked didn't include is the billing structure. You get invoiced once or twice a month. So it's to your benefit to already have that trust relationship.

You're proabably safe in assuming everyone is legit.

    I am currently selling a drop-shipping site.

I think it is a very good idea. Basically, the simple process has been explained already. You get the payment, send the order to the drop-shippers (wholesalers), and the mail the product directly to your customers. It is always a good idea to clarify everything with your wholesalers though.
