I started my website about a year ago. It's had miniscule sales but visitors, incoming links and sales had been steadily increasing. Especially April, May and the first part of June my sales had more than doubled. It encouraged me to finally complete and get up my new "look" which included a rewritten index page. I got my last sale June 12 and that was also the day I loaded my new pages. I think it looks a lot better and most of the content is the same. I was starting to get a fair amount of traffic from other sites which had linked to mine (without my asking them).
I have temporarily loaded my old index page witht he old look and wording to www.drdansinfo.com so it can be compared to my new page in my profile.
Do you think it's a fluke, I wasn't getting that many sales anyway?
Is it possible the incoming links were affected?
Could my new pages have been spidered and ranked already and I lost page rank?
(I wouldn't think so since traffic has continued to climb)
There is suddenly a lot of interest in the product I'm selling and other sites selling it, could this be normal ups and downs in that interest.
I can just reload the old pages (I think) but I want to know WHY it affected me so much first, so I don't make the same mistake.

What keywords or phrases are you targeting and did you lose your ranking for those terms or just no conversions?
If thats not it. If you dont have a duplicate content page on your server and you didnt spam out your major keywords I dont see any problems.

I'm not sure I understand your answer. My ranking didn't change, my traffic has actually increased, but I went from 1-4 sales/week to absolutely nothing since the minute I loaded the new look.
I have kept tweaking it and actually went back to the exact same wording as the old site, still nothing. I got two responses to my popunder survey. Both said they would have purchased if I took credit cards directly. I am currently in the approval process for an online merchant account but I don't think that's really much of the change since I was getting PayPal sales before.

Make sure your checkout is working. Perhaps this seems obivious but clear your cookies and run through a simulated purchase. I have seen people forget to do the obvious. U noticed on one page that the paypal button was a red x.
Try 2checkout.com for a quick merchant solution.

Thanks. I just noticed on my own that some of the PayPal buttons were not working properly. I went through them all immediately after putting up the site and they were working fine. The HTML for the buttons is correct but they go to the wrong size and amount. So something is screwy with them. I'm also in the process of getting an regular merchant account for the site so all that will be changed anyway in a couple of days.
I do think it's something else primarily though as most of the buttons work fine.
