Hi first of all I want to send a big thank you! to the owner of this site. It´s GREAT!

Now I´m thinking about opening a store front I´v got this item I tought I might sell and more than enough of it.

But the question is should I start selling it I whould be the only one but I did a
overture key word search and there are only 1299 that search excactly the name of the product wich I have and can sell for about 10-100$ depending on the size of the items.

This item is used for 3 hobbys one gets 117k searches other 219k and 70k last month but none of them sell this item but I know people can use it and will want it.

Should I try to get some links from the mayor sites from those hobbys
or some kind of an affiliate program.

Now the question is should I go ahead with it? what do you guys think?

    Goodness! I dunno...

If you have a product and you have a niche market then I would go for it...start at the beginning (by launching your product) and gauge the response to it. If it is good - related, established businesses will either steal your idea or link to you.

I got your message and I'm sharing my reply

There are no bad ideas as long as you can maintain an expectation of success. All you need is the the right information, at the right time and in the right order.

Try selling the rocks on eBay first. See what the demand is for the product before you invest time and money. You could even open a yahoo store for a small investment. Then give it some time grow.

Also, develop a USP (unique Selling Proposition), a clever tag line and a mission statement. what will make you different than everyone else that is selling this item. (hint: do not claim to be better, the best, fantastic, wonderful etc, these are ony words, you really need something really different)

You are not the only person selling this item, you need to analyze what the other sellers are doing, identify their failings and weaknesses and then exploit those (without libel and slander) to your advantage.

So many people believe they can make it in the ecommerce world, that the whole world will fall to their knees upon entering their site, empty their wallet and give you all the cash they have. It just isn't that easy. You still need to have business knowledge, accounting skills, and marketing ability. You will still need a brick and mortar location for shipping and inventory and employees to do the work. And you need to have a scalable business plan, what if you do have the right product aat the right time, can you get enough product to fill your orders and then ship it fast enough. Can you comply with International Laws. Can you even sell your item outside of your country? eBay has a great resource page for international sales rules link You will need to invest time and $$$, especially into the marketing. ask yourself, Do I Have The Know How to Open and Manage A Store on Main Street In The Biggest City Near Me?. If you don't or you find the proposition scary, then why would you open a store on Main Street Earth.

So many also believe they can hold their marketing costs down by just doing SEO and that they can do it themselves. Successful SEOprenuers have been doing it for years and have developed strategies that work for them. It is not something that you can learn quickly. It took the pro's years. SEo is in my opinion just a component of a bigger marketing strategy and can't be relied upon as the sole formula for internet success.

That said, their are a lucky few that make it, with little knowledge and expertise in the ecommerce field. It can be done. But consider that their are over 100 million websites out their. Only 1 percent, if that, are successful.

try ebay and Yahoo stores first and then go from there. You really may have the next "Pet Rock" and if you do, you will be among the lucky few smile

    good luck

Sound advice there mj... I'll second the idea to trial the product on ebay as a low cost option. You can customise and SEO the pages to see if you can get the product recognition in the search engines and see what works in the way of sales copy by tweaking content to your hearts content. Opening a store will allow you to develop content pages and manage product listings & sales adequately.
