Ok, I want to start an engine of my own, I realise that this will not be feasible just for me to work this though.

I don't have a clue about algorythms and the tech side but I can help with graphics and design/layout of the site if anyone wishes help I will be willing to help for free of course, even volunteering my comp, on a cable 1/2mb connection to do some spidering.

    Thanks in advance

I have not spent too much time thinking about it yet, my brother has told me the logistics. I think it would be too great a task for me to start since I have no programming.

I could design graphics/the site however my brother has told me that Google have a 1gb connection (several 100mb connections) and over 12,000 computers, obviously this is a huge milestone!! I am willing to give up my two computers both on a 1/2mb connection however at this rate it would take an AGE to index assuming that each site takes 10 minutes to totally index, I don't know this for a fact it is just a small guestimate i made.

I have a company to host the site if/when it gets made. But the intial spidering and continued spidering will be the main problem.

If you think you can help or, you need me in a search engine you have already set up please reply.

You need to find out what type of search engine you want. There are many spidering programs out there. I have spent much time and money trying to design a specific search engine. That is where the future is, there are enough search engines out there but there is always a need for specific ones such as doctors, dentist, restaurants. If you have an idea of what specific area you want to make the search engine for then you could proceed
