Maybe this isn't as new as I think it is, but when you search for an item in Froogle and mouse-over the link to that item, there's a string of extra characters on the end of the link.

Is Froogle tracking how many people click on a product in order to place the product better in the search listings?

It's quite possible that they're tracking clicks. They do this with the main google.com search, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're testing it on Froogle.

darcyh..

If you open the source for any Google SERPs and scroll down about half way you will be in the natural SERPs ...
you will see this code embedded with each url listing..
This would be the primary url link that relates to the respective clickable title text per listing...

Position 1
onmousedown="return clk(this,'res',1)
Position 2
onmousedown="return clk(this,'res',2)
etc..

This is returning data to Google regarding click thru trends for any set of SERPs..

bhartzer...please correct me if I am wrong on this...

Regarding Froogle...
they have a long string of characters attached to each url...

this is probably returning all sorts of usability stats to Google..

bhartzer...is this the tracking code in Froogle?

Thanks...
