I have a new site, submitted to Inktomi a couple weeks ago and thar page poppeed up on MSN straight away. As of a couple of days ago that page's keywords don't come up on MSN anymore, site:mysite.com yields nothing. Do I need to resubmit, is this MSN's new search (if so will it pick up the old submissions from Inktomi?). Any insight would be appreciated.

Well, At work today it came up on MSN at five... at home it comes up at 15. At least it's there again, hopefully I'll gain some insight as my experience improves. Right now I'm just scratching my head though. Perhaps with all the recent changes I've read about, I picked a great time to really focus on SEO.

MSN's results are very "derivative" and erratic. That is, it pulls from many sources, applies different criteria than anyone else, and is subject to change at any time. I wouldn't try to develop your skills by watching MSN, because it's a moving target. Instead, I would focus on Google and Yahoo. They are much less of a moving target (although they both still do move). And I am confident that in the long run, what works in Google and Yahoo will also work in MSN. Ultimately, the difference between the different Search Engines is just how much they weigh one factor versus another.
