During research into who was linking to our sites, I discovered one of our domains had come up in a forum in a list of "nasty" folks who supported a particularly evil piece of software.
Of course, we do not support "nasty" folks, so I inquired of the thread how we had gotten on the list.
A few years ago, we had been involved in a PPC program with Kanoodle. It turns out that one of their "affiliates" at the time was a company called Filemix, now out of business. Filemix distributed a type of software ( "scumware" ) that rerouted people's searches to other, pornographic sites masquerading as real sites. One of those "real" sites was ours.
We had no idea until today, 3 years later, that we had been "associated" with those jerks.
The bottom line put forth by the other forum is to look very closely at the "affiliates" and the terms and conditions for sending your information over to those "affiliates" before you sign up with a search engine with your advertising. They suggest sticking with the big guys, like Google and Overture, to stay clean.
I don't know about THAT! I'll bet Google and Overture have made their share of crappy "affiliations", too. So stay vigilant.

Here's a quote from a "5 star member" of the other forum:
"Overture is a very big player and they partnered with Gator scum so you're NOT safe with the big boys either. Their ethics are very weak with that decision.
The only safe bet in the PPC market is Google. Besides Google AdWords have a couple advantages over Overture.
As far as I know, Kanoodle is thiefware free unless someone here knows otherwise.
Believe ePilot is thiefware free too and seem to remember them making a comment that they would NOT partner with thiefware: http://www.epilot.com/
FindWhat (findwhat.com) is infected with WhenU thiefware. Steer clear of them until they dump WhenU (still no confirmation of that happening any time soon). Perhaps that's an indication to not ever work with them since they have shown little interest in dumping the WhenU partnership."
I'll check it out, but it's good to know. Any other info out there?

I would not worry too much, who partners with who. From my experience, one cannot know every outlet a PPC has (especially with one like searchfeed).
Google and overture are great, but they are very expencive. They also don't allow gambling/pharmacy sites. This excludes many webmasters and forces them to look for alternative.

I have actually seen a lot more suspicious traffic from them than from findwhat. I understand these companies may have some link with some form of scumware (not everithing is thiev ware), but that doesn't mean YOU or me are going to be included in scumware programs everytime.
Also, epilot from my understanding is just a re-seller of traffic. Most of their traffic comes from other ppcs.
This is just IMHO.
