Hi all,
I am the Product Manager for SearchFox (url in profile). I want to introduce our new beta release and would like to receive feedback from the JimWorld community.
SearchFox is a search platform. It allows you to create bookmarks using your own words, and search your bookmarks, your friend's bookmarks and the SearchFox community bookmarks at the same time. We call it "search platform" because it redirects you to Google if it doesn't have something better to show you.
SearchFox also includes the following cool features:
- Real-time Search: dynamically constructs search results as you type
- Keyword Suggest: displays keywords used by other members of the community when you add a bookmark to prevent folksonomies from breaking
- Groups: share bookmarks of everything your friends, colleagues and groups want to organize online
- Publish: transform a Blogger weblog into a collaborative portal. Following you will find two demo examples (the lists on the right and search box are powered by SearchFox):
searchfoxdemo.blogspot.com
patagoniaindoors.blogspot.com
Our beta version is invite only, to request an account go to:
www.searchfox.com/company.php?page=welcome
At this point, we want to build an early adaptors community to get feedback on current and future features. Therefore, we'll grant accounts until our server reaches capacity.
Please reply to this posting or send us an email to (contact information in profile) with your feedback.
Thank you.

You can't search without creating an account. Sorry, no way. You lost me and probably 99% of potential users right at the gate. Offer something extra for users who register maybe, but requiring registration to search is just wrong and not likely to get people to sign up. We'll just leave and not come back.
Sayonara, hasta la vista and all that.

EXACTLY!
A user will close your site in a fraction of a second, moreover, he wont visit it ever again.
This is a weird business pattern, think of something more feasible.

Hmmm,
I saw the name and thought yeah! Firefox - Searchfox this has got to be good ! Okay it´s getting on a bit here and i´ts past time for me switching off but given all the excitement about Firefox (and one devoted convert here) is it that surprising?
I definately wouldn´t register to search and in my own peculiar way I feel a bit disgruntled about the name.
Just call me grumpy. It´s late, I´m tired and you foxed me there.

Well, SearchFox is not a generic search engine. It is a bookmarking tool with features that allow you to use it as your search platform. Therefore, you need to get an account in order to build your index. By the way, it is four fields and you have to do it once.
Nonetheless, we will open general search to everyone once the general index becomes rich enough.
General search engines are flat and provide wide range of results. Overtime, Search Fox becomes deep and provides results relevant to your intersts.
If you are interested on having all the content that you find interesting and useful to be part of your search workflow, then SearchFox is a great tool for you.
In addition, you can do very cool stuff like: real-time search, keyword suggest, and index sharing and publishing.
