I've seen books listing websites and wonder where they get the list of websites from. I don't think writing the publisher would help. Anyone have any info on this? I not referring to any book in particular, just the ones that are comprehensive listings.

http://www.chinese.yahoo.com is a good place for listing chinese character sites. There are others of course like Lycos and altavista but Chinese Yahoo seems to be the best.
From my research it appears to be a google clone and deep spiders

If I were writing a book I would first of all use my own bookmarks, and for more links I would go straight to Yahoo.

Just an opinion.

hi allhallows,

Agreed that the Yahoo CN seems quite good in doing the ranking, and easy to submit!

Do you have any tips on submitting to Chinese search engines? Such as any special tagging, and how's the behavior of those searchengines in ranking?

Web Position Gold doesn't do any UK engines so cross them off your list. Top Dog does do some but last time I tried them out you couldn't do a whole list of keywords at once, one keyword at a time.

Jimtools has got some UK engines on his position checker, one keyword ata time but it's free. That's what I use mostly, plus some unlucky blighter to go through them by hand.

The definitive UK position checker isn't in existence yet as far as I know. If anyone knows any different you'd make my day (only in SEO terms!)

I just tried the trial version of Top Dog and I wasnt impressed. Your right you can only do a few keywords at a time, im not impressed by Top Dog, it would take me ages to do a report for clients with this. I think WPG is better then Top Dog.

Personally i use top dog, although its not perfect u still have to think about ask jeeves, freeserve and goto uk. I am happy with it and although I cant remember what the trial version does i do use 50+ keywords on a ranking report.

With regards to web position gold, please read the following google thread before you make your mind up.
Google ban on Web Position Gold users? http://searchengineforums.com/Forum28/HTML/000491.html

there you go thats my tuppence worth

TopDog for me too, and I echo what welshwayne said. Not ideal, but it'll do.

Having used all the major software packages to come up with one that does the job for UK clients, we finally decided that there's nothing yet commercially available which does the job to my satisfaction. We finally developed our own to incorporate all the major UK and .com engines.

Well worth the effort as we don't have to rely on third parties for updates, it avoids potential WPG reporting problems and presents reports/histories, etc in our own format.

Personally, I am a big fan of Agent Web Ranking- and they actually genuinely want user feedback. They answer email and everything.

Hi Welshwayne,

Could you please detailed your last comment: "agentranking will give a 'compare and contrast' with top dog and web position".

As I said before we need your feedback to develop the new version.

Hi everyone,

As I said previously, I would use agentranking after downloading it and have done over the last few days. To be quite honest it shouldnt be freeware.

agent ranking is faster than both top dog and webposition gold. The reporting is just as good as top dog and webposition.

And for a seo who is interested in just UK and global engines it is considerably better than web position, and nearly as good as top dog.

However the keyword frequency counter is very good.

Top dog obviously has more engines and i would still recommend this if you have cash to spare for investment. But, I will be using agentranking as well as a companion to top dog.

Just a slight warning about AgentWebRanking. The UK.goto searh returns results from the US goto engine.

i.e it doesnt work. But still a good product.

Hi RobEarls,

If you use AgentWebRanking, from the engine selection box (box 4), you will see that Goto does not appear in the the UK category but in the US/International category. This is why results from GOTO come from goto.com and not from uk.goto.com.

However if you ask this it means that the distinction between international/US and UK is not clear. We will work on it.

Anyway GOTO UK will be added to it to the new version.

Thanks RobEarls for your remark. If you have any questions please let me know.
