I know that you can get listed at the top of the google search page through the Google Premium account, but does it pull from any where else?

I have a google ad words account and my company shows on the side and at the top of the page. Is this through the new distribution?

    Thanks

I have heard that occasionally, if they have no premium sponsorship for the search, a regular AdWords client can get the spot. I was sceptical when I heard this and I can't confirm this yet from personal experience. Has anybody else heard of such a thing or experienced it themselves?

Simply increase your bid (even if you are already #1) and your Adword should be on the top of the search results, not on the side, immediately.

But with AdWords you can't bid on individual keywords. You have a Max bid and a Monthly limit.

    Clearing up a few things:

    1) Google Premium Ads are being phased out, no new accounts will be started and the whole system will be strictly ADWORDS by 2004.

    2) To appear both in the "top" spots of Google, on syndicated partners & within Content-partners, your ad must be within the "Top 4 positions"

    3) Adwords "position" by keyword is based on CPC X CTR.
If this is done within an ad group, then it's still based on individual KW performance, plus a little factor of max bid & the creative's performance.

    4) If you really want to track by individual keyword ad, then you can create an ad group with just one keyword phrase in it. But you would still have to put a few different ad copies in it to get maximum performance.

As skiguide was saying about individual adgroups for individual keywords, that is a total must in my opinion. There are many advantages to this approach well worth the extra work.

The extra control, scope of coverage, and really solid tracking ability, you get from doing this are just too good to pass up. Crazy good keyword research also.

Voicelogger, were you saying that you were seeing your regular AdWord's ad appearing as a premium sponsored ad in Google? That was what I thought you were asking about. Am I all messed up or was that it?

If so, I wouldn't mind a few more details if you have time. Thanks.

I've had google throw my adwords on the premium bar. Curious Mark said it...they fill the spot when they do not have co's advertising there. I'll notice them placing ours up there occasionally.

I'm just wondering what people's opinions are on the premium sponsored link and whether it drives more traffic to your site.
I'm now getting many keywords in the premium section and am just wondering whether it will drive more traffic to my site, or maybe even drive less because there not appearing along the right hand side anymore.
What are people's experience of this?

It will drive more traffic provided the wording of your Adword is relevant. For it to be successful, your Adword text must absolutely contain the keywords / keyphrases you are bidding on.

I have split my listings in 2 categories. One is a general one, with bids at around 10 cents. Another is a specialist one, one that contains search phrases of 3 words and more that describe very exactly the services I offer; for that category I have placed my bids at around 5 dollars, and these Adwords are at the very top.

The first category struggles with a CTR of 1%; the second one achieves around 5%.

I've found the top sponsored link position can drive sometimes even a 10% CTR
