My daily limit is set at $10.00 is all. Yesterday I was charged $13.00. First- Why? Second - Where do I sign up for a refund?

More importantly, my adsense draw was quite low yesterday.... I am averaging about 5% for adsense while I have adwords running. Yesterday, the numbers are way off - down in the 2% range? A fluke? I doubt it.

I looked at my 'searches' from yesterday and it seems normal - not too many 'odd' searches.

From google: "We may charge you more or less than your daily budget in a day, but we will never charge you more than your monthly budget (daily budget x days in the month) for any given month." hmmm.. seems like 'daily limit' doesn't mean what I thought it should mean - "a limit to spending daily".

Oh well.... I guess Google is just going to ensure that they get all of my dollars - even if I have some 'low' charge days...

I believe they automaticly apply the refund to your account, there no need to file for it or anything.

As far as the policy, I am not too familiar how and why the spending limits work they way they do, sorry sad. Hopefully somoene will chime in with some answers for you.

no, there's no 'refund' - their policy essentially states that it is sometimes possible to go over the "daily limit" because of the delays in reporting, and it will balance out at the end of the month.

Yeah - now I've got two days.. both over my daily limit - in a row. We'll see. I'll just have to watch close at the end of the month.

This happened to me. Every 4 days Google takes money off my credit card. They average the daily amounts. ie if my daily limit is $100, they times it by the number of days(4). If there were $500 worth of clicks I get an overdelivery credit and they only charge me $400.

One way of looking at it is that you get free clicks to your website, however it can screw up your reports because you're never sure how much everything costs. This month alone I had $300 given back to me.

It will show up in your My Account area with the message of an Overdelivery Credit.

Well emi_b Thanks. I hope you're right. They went over again. I'll watch for it, but I have had some slower days so it will probably average out ok.

I've seen the Overdelivery Credit in action. Nice to see they're doing that.

I just finished my first month with them and did indeed have some money back for over the limit charges.

For November I had numerous instances where my daily limit went over, however I did have sometimes when it didn't. Today Google looked at my daily limit and times it by 30 (ie 20*30=600) I had only been charged $300 so far but had actually spent $450 worth of clicks. They then added $150 to my invoice and everything seemed to have balanced out. I don't get why they don't do it like overture where it is really a monthly limit, and when you reach that limit it just pulls your ad. The one good thing is that you don't have to pay up front for your ads, but it ends up being very complicated.

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, if I set a daily limit, I expect Google to keep to that. If my ads get more clicks than they're supposed to, I shouldn't be held responsible for it.

On the other, it can ammount to free clicks, but more importantly I see it as a way to keep my ad running throughout the day. I've had several ads that stop showing by noon or 1pm simply because morning visitors clicked enough to spend through my daily budget and more. Ideally, my ads would be displayed in a frequency that kept them running throughout the day (which would mean they didn't appear sometimes when users searched for them, which can also be an issue) -- without overspending.

If you spend $500 every few days at Google it is easy to see how they implement the daily spending limit (which really isn't a "daily" limit as many have seen).

Here is an example of how the math works:

When my client spends over $500 his credit card is charged. If it has been five days since the last charge and his daily limit is $100, he will be charged $500.

This is true whether he actually had $500 worth of clicks or $750 worth during those five days. If he had $750 his account will show a charge to his card of $500 and a credit of $250. The credits have been as high as $360+ dollars in a period of a few days.

Basically, your limit ensures that you will never spend more than the limit x the number of days in the month. Any amounts over that are FREE advertising for you.

As to whether ads run throughout the day or stop showing if you hit a limit, why does anyone care? You get the same number of exposures and visitors so does it really matter when during the day you get them?

If you are converting to sales I don't know why you would want to limit exposure or clicks and if you aren't perhaps something should be changed to either increase sales or change advertising.
