    Hi all,

Sorry if this has been covered already please point me to the right article if is has.

I have two main items I'm advertising on adwords (and yahoo). One is quite profitable the other is borderline.

Several months ago now adwords set up this new scheme where they set keywords inactive for search. For the borderline item I needed to set the bid higher to get them active. This made them no longer profitable. I just stopped advertising them.

Now I'm looking at them again. When I speak to adwords they say that I need to increase my quality (ie. click through rate) to get them working or increase the bids. The minimum I need to increase them to is around $0.50 but I can only really afford to spend $0.20. When I increase them to $0.50 they are in the top ten and have a CTR of 2-3%. Since they appear so high I figure google must be taking bids from someone at only $0.20 and getting in the 11-20 range.

Any ideas on how I can get my ads active without spending too much money? I don't want huge amounts of traffick and be in the top 10. I just want my old ads working like they used to. sad

    Thanks,
    Travissadsad

    Hi Travis and welcome.

Usually you get very little traffic if you drop off the first page of results. If you can get all the traffic you want there that is good for you as long as we can get you some keywords that don't cost so much.

First, are you bidding on these keywords as broad match, "phrase match" or [exact match]? Sometimes the minimum is different for different versions and you may be able to get the others for what you want to pay.

Next, let's talk about CTRs. First if you're searching on your own keywords to see where you ads are stop doing that. It lowers your CTRs and can disable your ads and increase your minimum bids.

Next, are the keywords you are using in the titles of your ads and on your landing page? Both of those can affect your "quality rating" and therefore your minimums. If they aren't in the ads or on the landing page I would modify those.

Lastly, do some keyword research or brainstorming or both and see if you can think of some related keyword phrases with lower bids. They'll usually have less traffic.

I use a program called Ad Word Analyzer for research and to pull the top price at Google. The way it works is you type in any keyword or phrase and it returns all the phrases used last month that include that word or words.

If you only need one or two searches done you can PM me the words and I can email you the list of phrases it returns.
