    I am fairly new to online advertising. I would like to know how to do automatic keyword substitution in Yahoo ads. I know in google I can use {keyword} which is substituted by the keyword. What is the equivalent of that in yahoo.

    Thanks a lot.
    Maneesh.

    mcgupta - i am unfamiliar with automatic keyword substitution on google or yahoo. are you saying that when i write an ad for google, i can use "{keyword}" in the ad and it will place the keyword searched in the ad shown? i know i'm digressing from your question, but i was hoping you could explain this as i didn't know it existed.

    And it can be used in the ad title or body copy?

    If no one here can answer your question, you might want to try posting a message at webmasterworld.com. They have PPC forums.

    To the best of my knowledge, Yahoo does not support dynamic keyword insertion with their system. I believe there are third party programs being used by very large advertisers like the shopping comparison sites and ebay which may provide that capability.

    At Google, the format for using this is {Keyword: Default Title}. Their system will insert the keyword phrase in the title if it fits and use the keyword phrase you put after Keyword: if it doesn't.

    They request that you not use keywords that are not spelled properly in any ad group using dynamic keyword insertion. The capitalization you use on the word keyword will determine how the ad is displayed:

    {KeyWord: Default Title} will capitalize each word in the title
    {Keyword: Default title} will capitalize only the first word in the title
    {keyword: default title} will display the entire title in lower case

    There is more detail on using this feature at Google in the Dynamic Keyword Title thread.

    This information on using Dynamic Keyword insertion is just not easy to find in their help files.

    It looks like the new Yahoo ads supports this feature. It uses the format {KEYWORD:Maui Vacations}, for example.

    Yes, this is now possible at Yahoo too. And you can also do something like this at Yahoo:

    Save on {KEYWORD:Blue Widgets}

    Where there are words outside the phrase or in it. I haven't tried that yet to see if it also works at Google.
