Start with the keyword phrases that are getting conversions at Yahoo. For Google you'll want to use both the plural and singular versions of those words.

Ideally you want the keyword phrase to be part of the ad title so you must group very similar keywords together in an Ad Group. All of the keywords in that group will use the ads in that group so use a separate group for each set of keywords to match that group's ads.

Don't automatically use the recommended bids. They can be much higher than necessary and also much lower as they don't seem to reflect ads that show up only due to broad matching.

Your starting bid will be a best guess estimate of what it takes to get that ad on the first page of results. Be sure to check and modify bids regularly in new campaigns.

I usually concentrate first on getting keyword phrases in with one ad and then go back and test some additional ads. I do use more than one ad if a good idea comes to me while I'm creating them or if I suspect an ad might not be approved.
