If my chosen keywords cost .05 and my budget is set at $100, would i then essentially be buying 2000 clicks?

ummm, yes and no, you always pay 1p or cent whatever above the person after you so your .05 could actually be less.
But realistically, you would need a really really good quality score and CTR to be able to put your max CPC to .05 (if it's possible to have them that low anymore).
You can keep it at that price, however you may be appearing on page 5+ which won't bring much traffic

dudibob: thanxs for replying. im new to ppc and want to try it, but i dont want to throw my money away. when you ask what is my max cpc? i didn't know i could specify this. if you go to adwords and create an ad it asks you for your keywords and then your billing info. it doesnt ask my max cpc or anyting like that. please advise some more.
also how do i know my score and ctr?

your quality score is a hidden factor and you can view your click through rate for every keyword (located within adgroups)
Your adwords structure is like a tree, you have:
campaigns
ad groups
keywords and adverts
When you create a keyword you are asked to specify a CPC so that should of happened when you first started up, not ask you for your billing information every time.

Your Max CPC is the maximum price per click you are willing to pay. In your example you said five cents. If there are any other bidders on your keywords I would raise that to at least six cents and you may have to spend far more.
As dudibob was mentioning, most keyword phrases require bids much higher than five cents to get them onto the first page of results. (You may get very few impressions and clicks if your ad isn't on the first page.)
