Hi All
What’s the general opinion on the transferring of a Google ad words accounts to a competitor when you lose the business so history can be maintained etc.
My worries would be that they are not going to do any worst than you as they have gained your account, your optimization techniques, account set-up structures etc giving them an insight into your PPC skill set. Or is it just a case of the client is entitled to transfer your work to who they like?
The account is set-up in my name and all bills paid by me with the client invoiced.

Print them copies of the history and send it along.
It's your account, so it cannot actually be transfered into another name - meaning, G will not change the name on the account.
So, if you "give" it to them, the account will always be in your name - not a good idea.
Print them copies of the historical data for their records, but the account is actually your own account.
PS - welcome to the forums!

Are you sure about that Duane? I don't know of any fields in an Adwords account that cannot be edited. I have never dealt with that situation because I open all accounts in the client's name and have them use their own credit cards.
I never worry about anyone else gaining insight into what I do because most won't bother or get any value from it anyway. I did do some sub-contracted work for another PPC person who did analyze everything I did; more power to him for being wise enough to understand and apply it.

Accounts should always be opened up in the client's name and should use the client's credit card.

That is how I see it but I know that many agencies put them in the agency name, use their own credit card, and bill the client.
I have no desire to be in the collections business or to have that kind of risk and cash flow challenge so I never do that.
Agencies have given me some reasons they put accounts in their own name:
They want control of the account.
They receive frequent flyer or other incentives from the credit card charges.
