I got this e-mail from Yahoo, and I'm not happy about it. Replacing
the top 5 bids with a range will have us flying blind. Plus, there
is no estimate on the cost per click. Is this a result of a lawsuit
or something, or are they just being evil?
Tim
Dear Advertiser,
As you will soon notice when you log into your Sponsored Search account, we are making some important changes to your Manage Bids page.
In early December 2006, some of the information on the Manage Bids page will no longer be available. We will be removing the "Top 5 Max Bids," "Position" and "Your Cost" columns from the current account interface. The View Bids tool will also be removed.
These columns will be replaced with two new columns of data:
* Estimated Average Position
This displays an estimate of the average position your listing may achieve, based on your bid and the current bids of other advertisers.
* Bid Range for Top Positions
This displays the current range of bids other advertisers are willing to pay for the positions at the top of the search results page.

This is a result of the roll-out of Yahoo's new system codenamed Panama. The main reason for the changes is research that showed Google's business model was more profitable. The "new" Yahoo is very similar to Google.
I also liked being able to bid for position but recognize that it may tell you that is your position but it isn't really. Your actual position shown for any given search varies depending on many variables.
It might be wise to adjust bids just before they go away so your ads are about where you want them. After the change adjusting bids at Yahoo will probably be similar to Google.
I have one account that is already on the new system so when I have time to work in it I'll be posting information about how it is different and how to use it.
