Did anyone else notice far less traffic and sales for not only Super Bowl Sunday this year but also the Friday and Saturday just before? I checked sales for last year and show that in 2006 traffic and sales dropped only on Super Bowl Sunday and did not affect the Friday and Saturday.
I know that there were television specials about Super Bowl commercials on Friday night. Any theories on why Internet usage may have been lower on Friday and Saturday? Any guesses how many people make a weekend out of Super Bowl Sunday either due to travel or parties? Maybe the weather was better and people were outside?
Anyone not see this effect?

One of my PPC clients drove Super Bowl-related traffic to their site during the days before (and including) Super Bowl Sunday...drove a lot of traffic to their site over the weekend and had a 4.86 CTR ratio.

I suspect some do use the Internet and watch TV at the same time and would expect a Super Bowl related site to be very popular then.
I wonder how much the focus on Super Bowl Sunday may reduce traffic and sales to non-related sites. Traffic is usually slower on Fridays and Saturdays for most e-commerce sites but I definitely saw lower sales this past Friday and Saturday than I saw on that weekend in 2006.
It could be an unrelated cause such as the weather or the Super Bowl people may have hit on more ways to get the focus on their event earlier and keep it there.
