I have a client who sells online through their website. We are getting allot of impressions and clicks but are not selling anything. The cost per click for most of the keywords associated with this product is ranging from $5.00 to $10.00. I guess I am not sure what I should be doing next.
Any help would be great. Thanks

Lower your cost per click and see.

I don't do PPC, but my friend is trying with Yahoo. He was receiving little traffic with little conversion so he increased his click prices.

His site received more clicks but NO conversion. It may be same with you too??

It could be many different things. Are your ads specific enough so that people know exactly what you are offering when they click on your ad. You want to qualify the traffic before they click on your ad and cost you money. Make sure your keywords and your text ads are very specific to what you are selling/offering.

Your cost per click is pretty high too. Are you picking the right keywords? If your picking general keywords that have a whole lot of competition, that may be why they are so expensive.

Also, problems on your site could be why you aren't getting any conversions. Do you have a traffic tracking program setup where you can see where people are going and not going on your site? I'd really look at that. Get feedback from people who have visited your site and see what they say. Maybe your site is really hard to navigate and people get frustrated and leave. Maybe your prices aren't competitive. There's a million things it could be on your site. Start with refining your PPC campaign and see if that fixes it.

If you put your site in your profile, people can look at it and see if they see any issues there.

If you are using some lengthy ordering form, delete as many fields as you can. People don't like to type [count me too smile]

As others have indicated there are many possible reasons for a lack of conversions. If you're actually paying $5-$10 per click for traffic I would highly recommend you have someone very experienced in PPC advertising check your account before you spend any more.

The first thing to do is to complete numerous test orders to verify that their shopping cart works. I see intermittent problems with shopping carts all the time. Some are the cart; some are issues with the merchant account processor; some are issues with communications between the various sites.

Next the site should be evaluated for obstacles to conversions. I highly recommend the book Don't Make Me Think. You can find information about that book including sample chapters and an online audio interview with the author in the sticky thread in this forum called Web Design for Higher Sales.

That thread also explains many specific issues that reduce conversions and links to other threads with additional information on that subject. You may find something there that applies to your client's site.

Finally the advertising itself from the choice of keywords to average ad position to ad text need to be checked. I almost never pay more than $1-$2 per click for most advertisers so unless you're advertising on mortgages or legal terms there may be an issue there.

If you would like detailed assistance contact me via PM or email and I'll check it over for you at no charge.
