The easy way to generate income from ads is to use Google Adsense or the Yahoo! Publisher Network. You apply for either program, copy and paste the code on your pages, their systems determine what the page is about and display relevant ads. They collect the money from the advertiser and send you a percentage each month. Be sure to read the fine print as there are rules you must follow such as not displaying competing ads on pages, not clicking on ads on your own site, and so on.
