Hi there,

I've been put in charge to promote our website which is a general website which promotes our customers such as charities, newsletter signups for various companies, free catalogues etc. In other words, very diverse companies which have good offerings.
The concept of the website is that a visitor clicks multiple options and with one click on the button can order these services by filling their details just once instead of multiple times.

When i used the google suggestion tool and added all the words they suggested i'd recieve 10.000 clicks but in fact i only recieved 20.
My main issue is therefor that i'm finding it very hard to buy the correct adwords. I've also noticed that there are so many competitors buying broad words that i'm getting no clicks at all.
Using overture suggestions hasn't helped either, so if someone could advise what I could do to create succesful CTR's then please let me know or if you have some other good points which could help

Cheers

Very general keywords may have huge amounts of traffic and not attract any clicks if the ads are not targeted enough. They can also have so much competition that your ads are not appearing on the first page of results.

First check the column for your average position. If there are any higher than 7-8 your ads are probably not on the first page of results. You'll have to raise bids to get onto the first page or you will get little traffic.

On Google's system I would also always check that the Recommended Daily Budget function is not limiting impressions. If that is set too low their system will show your ad sporadically. Their budget estimator has been broken for a long time now so you cannot tell by using it if that is the issue.

It also doesn't matter that you have never spent anywhere near the amount you are using as a budget. You can either change your campaign settings to accelerated and check your ads late at night by using the magnifying glass icon next to the keywords to see if the Ads Diagnostic tool indicates they are not being shown due to your budget OR raise the budget substantially and see if impressions increase.
