Has anyone here ever run a PPC campaign on Ask.com? I know Google ads show up there but I'm wondering if anyone has ever used Ask.com's system directly and run a campaign on it. I have a client who is thinking about it. Ask's system just seems very behind - no conversion tracking, no geo-targeting... And, the SE stinks too in my opinion. The search results always seems very dated. Anyone else have any options here?

Some time ago there was a discussion on using Ask directly versus having Google ads appear there. There was an issue with your ads competing with each other which they indicated could be manually resolved by contacting Ask.
I have not personally used their system and haven't come across any new information on doing so lately.

The other issue is that if you sign up with Ask.com, they put your ads into their partner network.
It's been awhile since we tried this, though, their partner network had a low quality and drove down results to the point where we needed to discontinue it. Haven't heard anything lately to indicate that they changed.

My personal experience using Ask.com is that it can run profitably, if properly set up.
I suggest that one uses Ask.com for branded terms, and top producing keywords. I would not put the full keyword list within Ask.
As for having Google run ads within Ask.com, two companies are then making money off of my consumers "click". There are some CPC savings to having some terms directly on Ask.com
Running campaigns directly on Ask.com also allows you to follow your consumers pathing on a more detailed route. It has been my experience that the different engines attract different type of consumers. Running a campaign on Ask.com would possibly allow you to better segment and classify your consumer.

@alewinsk: Thanks for posting your experience and especially for sharing your strategy for running ads at both Google and Ask. This information is much needed and do not currently have enough time to test out everything personally. Thank you and I do hope you'll become a regular here and in my blog.
