The quick Ads Diagnostic Tool accessible by pointing at the magnifying glass icon is still somewhat buggy; however, it looks like this time it is indicating that there is indeed a problem.
It just gave me this message on a keyword that has had 4,188 impressions, 184 clicks, a CTR of 4.39% and a conversion rate of 1.63% in the last three weeks.
Ads Diagnostic Tool: keyword phrase
The keyword phrase doesn't currently trigger any of your ads.
There are several possible reasons your ad isn't showing for this keyword, such as:
* You just added the keyword to your campaign. You may experience a short wait as your keyword goes through the review process.
* Our server is experiencing a delay.
* Your ad delivery is being spaced throughout the day.
The budget is many times more than daily spend so it shouldn't be spacing ad delivery throughout the day. The ad delivery is set to accelerated and Google's system just rolled over to a new day so that shouldn't be the issue. The keyword has been there for months. So that leaves "Our server is experiencing a delay" as the reason that keyword may not be receiving consistent use.
Worse news is the phrase really isn't triggering ads. Using the Ads Diagnostic Tool in the Tools section returns this message:
The following campaigns and ad groups will not show ads for the keyword
The keyword [keyword phrase] is present in campaigns and/or ad groups which are not currently configured to show search ads. The ads in these places will not be shown for this keyword.
Ad group status: Deleted Ad Group > keyword phrase
The ad group is definitely active and certainly not deleted. The campaign settings are set to Google Search and Search Network. None of the keywords in that ad group are currently displaying ads but they have a few impressions today.
Perhaps this is the reason that impressions and conversions sometimes show unusual drops for no apparent reason. If anyone at Google is reading this when I worked at IBM we had super-sleuths we called Lan Doctor Top Guns who could diagnose the cause of network issues. Hopefully they still do. They can be contracted to check complex networks like yours.
