Google's first incarnation of AdWords was to pay per thousand impressions. More precisely, the advertiser would bid how much they wanted to pay to have their advert shown on Google 1000 times.

This then evolved into "Pay Per Click" whereas the advertiser only pays when the ad is clicked on and a qualified prospect is delivered to the website.

The latest incarnation has evolved so that the advertiser has the ability to only pay when a certain action has been carried out on their website. A sale or subscription for instance.

Have two threads been combined here? The link in my post above is corrupt as it used to go to the other thread when there were two of them.

Anyway, The benefit of a CPA campaign is that you only pay when you sell a product - for example - so return on investment can be set in a firm business model.
