Hey does anyone know the statistics on google as far click-thru rates on the cpc results in comparison to the natural results. Also, the click-thru rates by ranking on the page (From some sources i've heard that the #1 result has nearly a 12% click thru rate)

I imagine only Google know this - and they're not likely to say. I also imagine it depends on specific searches and how well the AdWords are written for that query.

I'd be cautious of anyone banding around figures.

I agree, I believe that Google is the only one that knows, and won't say, but according to ComScore, in general (not specific to Google) paid listings have an 18.3% click thru and organic listings have a 4.3% rate.

    Hope this helps.

Wail and cbguimb are right, Google knows this but they won't tell us. That's their proprietary information.

But, you can test it, though--get top rankings in the free/organic results and pay to be included in Google Adwords and see which get clicked the most.

Seriously, though, from what I have been told by other PPC experts in this field, the free/organic results get clicked a lot more than the Google Adwords ads get clicked.

To add to what everyone else has said, my understanding is that 78% of total click-throughs go to organic and 22% to paid, but that, as cbguimb notes, CTRs for paid vs organic listings (on a per-listing basis) are 18.3% vs. 4.3%.

What I'd really like to know is what can be extrapolated from those two sets of numbers? Does this simply mean that the ration of organic listsings to paid listings is 95 to 5?

    [22 multiplied by 4.3/18.3 = 5.17, to get a 95:5 ratio instead of 78:22]

The main variable that you are forgetting is the fact that the keyword in the Google Ad Word CTR is effected by the Qualification of the traffic clicking on it.
Example: I have one keyword that recieves around 7500 clicks a week (Globally) via GAW and that converts into a CTR of 17% to 22% > this search term relates to our flagship product and automatically qualifies the customer as someone who knows the product and is ready to buy/download

I have another non-product related keyword that is used to attract unique visitors to the site that recieves 750 clicks a week and converts into a CTR of 1.3% to 7.1% > This is search term is just as valuable in two major ways

    1) These are 750 new people to the site per week that I have never gotten to the door before (or at least they have removed the cookies from there Cache)
    2) these 750 people will hopefully buy our products or will at least remember our company name and product list (I try to use the Jedi mind trick as much as possible)

You really need a good metrix tool to show you what key words work and what dont when relating to the AdWords or Natural.

Possible option is to create seperate landing pages for your AdWords and then measure the success for each keyword then you can determine the path to success

Hope that helps... I know we all want tangible evidence of CTR but you have too many variables to count to get any one average number.
