opinions differ.. if you do a search for linksmanager here on the forums you will see some opinions in the past...
If that doesn't work try this here google search.

excell,
I think what is being asked (at least by me) is we are looking for a links manager program that does it all:
- easy to install and operate
- provides means for others to request reciprocal on you site
- automatically checks the reciprocation
- automatically keeps tabs on reciprocal links
- etc... etc...

oh that's an easy question for me to answer.. I don't like *any* reciprocal links auto program, I'm not even sure I like reciprocal links.. in my opinion hand knitting, weaving and warping of the web is far superior and quality over quantity and uniqueness over sameness is going to win hands down all the way.. not only with users & webmaster but also with search engines..
As I said my opinion - as unpopular as it can be (usual)

I agree with Excell. The only linksmanager you should use is You. Be your own human edited directory.
Even if a linkmanager was wonderfully good at checking for return links (which isn't the reason why most people link to other websites) it wouldn't be able to tell whether the page was on topic for yours. If you're trying to sell oranges then you wouldn't notice if a link-to-you page suddenly changed focus to "All fruits suck!".

Whatever wail,
try to be a human edited directory when you have 30+ sites to manage
Linksmanager is useful but not a be all end all, most of the links you will get using it have PR0 , so it will take a ton of them to do a lot to your rankings
AND ITS NOT AUTOMATED, its tedious as hell
it may seem automated if you don't know how to program and spend a lot of time hand writing a href tags
I use it on several of my sites , it saves time but is not really necessary

Excell could not have said it any better.
Don't think that (long term speaking) programs like linkmanager are going to get results.
That kind of "blind linkexchange" is missing the whole perpose behind trying to define what site is popular and which isn't, and just like with the "meta tag spam", google and co. are going to eliminate the validity of such action one step at a time.
Juts imho

We use links manager as a quick fix but not the long-term solution. It can be useful in some cases.

Excell,
How would you manage the links from 500+ sites?
obviously you need it to be cost effective
thanks
