Does anybody know some more about this new anti-spam tactic that AOL is implementing:
http://www.technewsworld.com/perl/story/33211.html
It does seem a little tough. I'm specially worried about it's implications, I mean, could a competitor send out a million e-mails with my sites URL on it and get me banned from AOL? Is there any way they can confirm that the e-mail came from the site it promotes? How many complaints to AOL would it take to block a site?

That is one of the issues raised in the article.
I really don't see this being a long term solution. Just like when email is blocked they will just go get another url once the one they are using is blocked.
Tiny urls (which go to an alt domain that then redirects to the real url) could take the biggest hit. I see them being used to bypass this block as well.

Hmm I was just about to say that even if they get a new domain name, they will still have the same IP address.
Dunno if that is relevant or not... off to read the article.

I've been arguing back and forth with a client since last week.
Long story short - on the heels of some real server issues a 'form' on his site ceased emailing him the collected data. After going back and forth he finally convinced himself what I've been telling him since last week - AOLs new spam blocking was ditching his form responses that he was previously getting with no problem. He had his 'Spam' box turned off so he wasn't getting them there either.
This created a problem with another, similar case, client that prefered to use their AOL email over their server email. All of the sudden email they were getting with no problem was getting dumped in the Spam bin - where they didn't think to look for it.
While spam is a real problem once you take control away from the individual it creates even more problems than the spam itself.
