Hi,
I have been trying to gather information about using sub-domains. I am under the implression that using sub-domains has a very positive SEO attribute:
**Search engines and directories consider each sub-domain to be a seperate site. So, for instance, one can submit each of their sub-domains to a directory and get them listed in the various categories that are most appropriate for each product offering (this would of course assume that all content is unique in each sub-domain).
So.....
www.company.com
www.product1.company.com
www.product2.company.com
Is this a valid SEO strategy?

yes but I don't know the details of how Google might treat it... it has been used to essentially spam them in past.
Also you don't put www. before a subdomain
ie. http://product1.company.com

Very often there is no reason to use sub-domains. The biggest problem is that each sub-domain acts as its own URL and all the linking work has to be done for each. Much easier to use sub folders and build one quality site.
