How many of you change meta-tags based on keyword density program reports? I've run one on our sites and I've found that a lot of them come up with bad reports using a 2 separate keyword density analyzers. They both have basically come back with the same results. Surprisingly all of the titles are considered very bad by the analyzers and they were just re-done by a consultant a few months ago!
Anyone have any opinion on taking the keyword density analysis and making the changes anyway? I really don't have a lot of confidence int his 'consultant' anyway, he reports to me now for other projects, but it just seems like he ripped the company off here.

I generally include meta tags with the appropriate description and keywords that are related to that particular page, but don't do much when it comes to the keyword density and the meta tags specifically.
As long as the meta tags accurately describe the content of the page, then you're fine. I wouldn't obsess over them. Links are more important to a page's rankings.

Actually I'm looking through the meta tags and it is a lot of repitition of the 'same' keyword within phrases so we are only really capturing that one keyword scheme.
Like I said I didn't write these and I'm finding that they are very limited and don't really have the keywords I'd focus on for the pages.
example: African American Magazines Page
The term African American Magazine is used in varying combinations about 9 times in the keywords. Very little variety, and it doesn't have any keywords about the products on the page. i.e. ebony or vibe etc.
I would think the more specific keywords for actual products people might look for would be better then a set of general terms.

Don't repeat any keywords in the meta tags.

So, you should definitely add those keywords. The words in the meta tags should accurately describe the contents of that page. You can use a few general terms to add some variety but keep it focused to the page it's on.

Thanks for re-affirming my suspicions. I just couldn't believe that they had a consultant do all this recently. I've already begun modifying the meta tags. Good news is this is something I can get done on my own and it's fairly simple.
Thanks!
